Is there a specific type of pillow protector you’d recommend for use with your down pillows? I currently have waterproof (polyurethane backing) pillow protectors, but I read in one of the reviews here that waterproof protectors cause down pillows to develop an odor?
Amber
Hi Amber, The best type of pillow protector for down pillows is a breathable, natural fabric like 100% cotton. For down to perform optimally it needs to breathe and loft up with air! I'm not sure that waterproof protectors would cause odour development. Odour is caused by exposure to moisture which activates odours in the oils in the down (most of the oils are stripped away during the cleaning and sanitization process, but some oil residue is necessary to prevent the material from becoming too brittle). If there was some moisture pillow already, I imagine a waterproof protector would trap it inside and make the issue worse. But if the pillow was dry and not odourous in the first place, it should be fine.
Down and feather don't respond well to repeated exposure to moisture. Mold, mildew and other bacteria can develop. That would be the primary concern - if you need a waterproof protector to keep the fill from becoming moist, go for it! If moisture is not expected to be an issue in your environment, I would opt for something more breathable.

I just received some of your Hutterite Down Perfect pillows I ordered from JC Penny’s and they have a terrible smell. From what I’ve read on your site this isn’t normal. You can smell them as soon as you walk into the room. They have been airing for 24Hrs and don’t seem any better. Do you have any suggestions or should I just return them?
Ed Palmer
Hi Ed, I’m so sorry to hear that! That does sound unusual as we have not noticed any odour in our warehouse or had the same complaint from other customers. Duck down and feather does have a higher likelihood of developing an odour than goose material, so you may be happier with the regular Down Perfect Pillow for that reason. If your pillow arrived with a really strong, pungent odour, this may qualify for repair or replacement under warranty. However, since you haven’t used the pillows yet, it’ll be easier to just return them and purchase a new pair than go through the warranty claims process.

I have poor eye sight and cannot read the cardboard insert for our new “white feather and down” duvet Care and Maintenance – even with a magnifying glass. Please send me the instructions via email. Thank you!
ANN
Hi Ann, I’m so sorry about that! The white text on the yellow background is hard to read. We will do better on the next iteration of the packaging. You can find all of the care and maintenance instructions and product details on the product page on our website!

How often should they be cleaned and I am assuming dry cleaned?
steve
Hi Steve, Natural down and feather products should be dry cleaned, correct. If they need washing, we recommend bringing to a professional cleaner. I'm not sure what type of product you're referring to. Pillows, for example, are exposed to more body oils and moisture than duvets and require more frequent cleaning. Ultimately it depends on frequency of use and the cleanliness of the environment. If you notice yellowing or odour, that's a good sign the product is ready for cleaning. Or if you believe that it is collecting dust based on a high level of environmental dust. If products are used with the proper covers and protectors, they won't need to be cleaned as often.

I should let it fluff up for 48 hrs before using the duvet?
John Vermeulen
Hi John,
You can start using it right away, but just be aware that it won’t be fully lofted for a couple days, and it may not provide its full insulating capacities until after it’s fully lofted! If you are concerned about fluffiness and think you may want to return the duvet based on how it lofts up, then let it loft up before using it. The duvet won't be eligible for return once it has been used.
