About This Product:

This comforter (aka duvet) is made with microfiber fill. Microfiber is soft and plush. It's a high quality polyester that's meant to mimic the softness of down. The shell is 300 thread count cotton, which is soft and quiet.

This comforter is generously filled. Microfiber doesn't have the same insulating properties as down, so microfiber comforters are heavier weight. We need a fair bit of fill to achieve the desired warmth. One benefit of a synthetic comforter is that it can be machine washed at home, given your machine is quite large and you wash/dry on a low heat setting. Natural down and feather are quite sensitive to moisture, but polyester is not!

This comforter comes in All Season Weight, which works well for room temperatures around 16 - 18 degrees C or if you’re fairly cool when you sleep.

Care

This duvet should be used with a duvet or comforter cover at all times. Failure to do so will cause premature wear and invalidate the warranty. A properly covered duvet will eliminate the need for a top sheet. This keeps bed making to a minimum and allows you to enjoy the light, cozy feeling of your duvet.

Prior to use, shake the duvet vigorously to help fluff up the Gel Microfiber. It will take about 1 week of use before the outer fabric softens up and the fill lofts up to its full potential.

There may be a slight odour as a result of having been stored in the packaging, but it will disappear within the first week of use.

Take your Gel Microfiber duvet outdoors periodically and air it. This helps maintain its freshness, fluffiness and insulating qualities.

This product should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated closet or room when not in use in order to prevent mildew growth.

Cleaning Instructions:

A properly maintained duvet should only require cleaning after five to ten years, if at all.
This product may be machine washed in a large machine in cold water, using mild detergent. Dry on lowest heat until thoroughly dry. If the filling stays even slightly damp, the Gel Microfiber will clump together and may allow mildew growth. Your duvet is covered in 100% cotton and filled with synthetic Gel Microfiber. If proper washing instructions are not followed, the duvet may shrink, possibly causing puckering in the stitching and loss of the filling.
Alternatively, you may have your comforter dry cleaned or professionally washed by a reputable cleaner that specializes in cleaning Gel Microfiber products.
Small spots or stains may be removed by holding the fabric away from the filling and using warm water and mild soap. To dry, use a hair dryer on low heat.

I absolutely love the Gel Microfiber duvet! It’s definitely a lot better for my needs, and it has no scent, which was great because I have a really sensitive nose. I love the weight, I love the way it feels, and I’m so cozy and comfortable for the first time in years.

J'ai acheté cette couette en Juillet et je ne peux m'habituer... j'ai choisi toutes saisons mais cette couette est tellement chaude que je me réveille en sueur chaque nuit ... c'est terrible et je regrette mon choix.........

Nice duvet, questionable construction

Feels great, but the construction is questionable. Just as Rebecca has mentioned below, small bits of stuffing were in the side stitching of the duvet - albeit I've only had it for a few days and haven't even washed it. Therefore, can't rate it more than a 3.

Yes, sometimes fill can get caught in the stitching as the product is being sewn closed. This can happen with any fill, but particularly with these microfiber duvets because they're quite generously filled and the fill is quite bouncy and difficult to hold completely away from the stitching. I'm so sorry that your impression of the product hasn't been great so far. But it sounds like from a comfort and usability perspective it's working ok? Love this comforter! Just as warm as a down comforter, it’s a little heavier but not noticeable while sleeping. Love the fact that it is machine washable since my dog sleeps with us.

Excellent value Duvet

As with anything online these days I was skeptic when buying products online. After extensive review of Canadian Down and feather, I knew they were a solid Canadian company with excellent customer service to back up their claims. I went ahead and ordered the Alternate Down Duvet, only because of allergy concerns and secondly, I live rurally and Dry Clean services are not available within a reasonable distance. Beauty thing about alternative down is you can wash it yourself and saves money. So we didn’t hesitate to get this particular model and were extremely impressed with the weight and warmth it provides. As soon as I took it out of the box it expanded right out and got nice and fluffy within minutes. The 300 thread count also makes it soft and quiet, as I wasn’t looking for a crinkling sound when I move. We are so impressed that we are planning to buy two more duvets for each of our children to keep them warm over the winter. I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase from this Canadian company and will look forward to using them again in the future without hesitation. Thank you for a great quality product!
